ELMONDO - NOT YOUR TYPICAL BAR

Located in the harbour of Chania, Crete – Add.: Kondilaki 35 – within the picturesque Venetian alleys, "Elmondo Bar" first opened it's doors in  the winter of 1981 and is the second oldest bar in the Chania harbour with the same owner. Since then, 24 years later, Elmondo is still not your typical neighbourhood bar.

It started off with 2 owners, but since 1987, only Theo remained to tell the tales of Elmondo – along with George (Einstein) – Theo’s manager and DJ Spiro who have shared the most years with him in the business.

In the beginning of Elmondo, and because there wasn’t enough tourism, most of the customers consisted of military personnel – from the American base located in Akrotiri and Souda Bay as well as the military personnel from the Greek bases.

Then came tourism – organised packages and other kinds of tourism – which of course found Elmondo to be the right place for the right holidays.

It generates a steady crowd every night, starting at around 10:00 pm and continues till late at night, usually until after 4:00 am.

People that have visited the bar, come again, and again, and again, and this goes for the foreigners and couples as well who sometimes travel thousands of miles to celebrate their anniversary in the place that they met for the first time.

And, Elmondo has seen it's share of celebrities too - walking in because it was suggested as the best bar in Chania harbour.

The staff is immaculate!! Some of them have been around for years and years. There is always a great group of happy faces ready to serve you (familiar faces and not so familiar faces) in Elmondo.

The nights at Elmondo start off with older rock music – slower and classical pieces from all eras of rock music. The DJ continues with newer rock music and dance pieces according to the crowd’s mood.

The decoration in Elmondo is one of a kind. The walls are full of dollar bills, loads of other currency, caps, t-shirts, photographs and all of them gifts from the customers, having messages and signed from them – leaving their mark in time.

STAFF: Some of the Elmondo staff has been around since the beginning – such as George – and it’s usually the guys that stay quite a few years – Spiros, Kirgiakos. However, the girls change every season.
